Self image is all about how we see OURSELVES! It is about how we feel and how we think we look? All of which affects both our confidence and our self-esteem.
- What you think you look like
- How you see your personality
- What kind of person you think you are
- What you believe others think of you
- How much you like yourself or you think others like you
- The status you feel you have
I remember talking to a client who said they were not happy with the way certain area’s of their body looked like or feeled?
However when they asked their family and friends they disagreed and said:
‘I don’t know what your on about you have a fantastic body, I would love to have a body like yours!’
How many times have you heard that from someone??
Now that will do either one of two things:
- Give your self esteem a boost (for either a short or long period).
- Make you more annoyed as they can not see what you see which will ultimately make you even more unhappy!
They ultimately asked me the same question to which my response was:
‘That I too have those same feelings about my own body and it is not for me to judge you about the way that you feel about your own?!’
You see I have a rather plump ‘derriere.’
However over time I have come to love what I had otherwise disliked.
In ancient Greek times large buttocks were a sign of great beauty! It’s such a same we do not live in those times still!!
However in today’s times we now understand that the gluteal muscles are one of the most important muscles in sporting performance.
It also gives me extra cushioning whenever I sit down!!
If you don’t like something about yourself then make a plan to set about doing something about it!
Whatever you do ‘DO NOT’ set about doing exercises 3-5 times a week as you think the more you exercise the area the smaller it will become.
The age old notion of doing 1000 sit-ups a day will NOT lead to a flat stomach!)
The total opposite will happen! The muscle will increase in size due to the biomechanical stress it is being put under.
You need to work the body as a whole and eat more healthy, which in turn will reduce your fat stores that will in time lead to your chosen goal.
To LOSE weight your body needs to be in calorie deficit.
Remember the thing that you want to rid the most is usually the thing that happens LAST!
They body is a wonderful thing however it is also very stubborn!
